A New Church In Atlanta -- Louie, Chris, et al
Louie Giglio announced on the Passion Podcast that it is true... He and others, including Chris Tomlin (FTAC of 1994, whoop), have set their faces toward a "local expression" of Passion in Atlanta. I.E. a new church.
Where in Atlanta? They don't know.
When? Possibly 2009.
Who? Louie, Chris, Matt Redmond, Nathan and Christie Nockles (oh man, John's favorite singing duo), and a few others who have committed to being a part of it. Hold off on sending your resume. They aren't accepting them. There is no staff.
Will Passion events cease? No. They are planning one for 2009 and are doing a world tour this year.
Listen to Louie and Shelly Giglio and Chris Tomlin talk about it here.
For those of you who do not live in the ATL, it's a big city with an incredible diversity of neighborhoods/areas. There is the downtown area with 3 large universities; Buckhead with a large single population; Mid-town with lots of businesses and condos; Atlantic Station just north of downtown -- a work, live, play community; Vinings -- north of downtown but just inside the north loop -- a growing, younger population; Cobb County on the northwest side of town -- lots of families, a couple of universities; Alpharetta due north of downtown and the loop; Gwinnett on the northeast side -- very diverse, lots of families.
Let the speculation begin where the new church will be located. John will conjecture on good potential sites for a Passion-born local expression: (1) Atlantic Station area, (2) Vinings, or (3) Midtown, on the west side of Buckhead. Gwinnett seems an unlikely choice, but there is a big need for a great church in that area.
We shall see! Welcome to ATL Chris, Nathan, Christi, and Matt!
